The story behind the art:
The art traces its origin back about 700 years when the Rabaris from Rajasthan migrated to Kutch and brought this practice with them. Subsequently the Mutva and the Kumbhar communities also adopted this art and it became a signature of the Kutch area. Traditionally made by the village women to decorate the walls of their homes and also to keep them cool, these intricate works of mud and mirror have delicate Motifs of flowers, animals, insects, sun, moon and geometric patterns. The art has adapted itself to creations on MDF board, which give them both durability and portability, allowing them to be transported to modern homes as beautiful traditional wall decorations.
