The Beauty of Rajasthani Miniature Paintings – Unique Art Form of India
Indian miniature paintings are a beautiful living tradition that trace back to 9th century CE. These highly detailed paintings have been around for longer than paper has existed. Paper was introduced in India in the 12th century, but Indian miniature paintings came into existence in the 9th century, when these were painted on manuscripts made from cloth or dried palm leaves.
By the 12th century, this mighty artwork grew bigger in format and started including more intense colors and extensive border embellishments, highly influenced by the Persian and Mamluk painting styles. Over time, Indian miniature painters introduced intensified golds, silvers, and ultramarine blue from lapis lazuli, which made these paintings look more rich and vibrant.
