The story behind the art:
Pattachitra paintings trace their origins back to about a 1000 years. They are known for the detailed and intricate use of lines and colours to depict tales of mythology and folklore. Pattachitra essentially means "Patta" or cloth and "Chitra" or painting, meaning paintings on cloth. This art is believed to have evolved from the ancient mural paintings of Orissa which date back to the 5th century BC. The traditional artists use the hair of domestic animals tied to a bamboo stick as a brush. There are 5 main pigments used as colours - They are red, indigo, yellow, black and white
