  • The story behind the art:

The Gond are the largest tribe in India inhabiting the states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. According to Gond tradition, everything in nature, be it hills, trees, rivers, rocks or animals. are inhabited by a spirit, and hence, is sacred. Their paintings are a tribute of respect and reverence to these spirits. In the days of yore they used to paint the walls of their mud huts, and captured the essence of their life, heavily drawing inspiration from their natural habitat. This centuries old art beautifully captures the essence of human, animal, bird and other inanimate natural forms blended magically with patterns, colours, motiffs and minute artistry. Adorn your walls with this timeless art, make it a conversation piece, or, gift to someone to show how much you appreciate them.
