The story behind the art:
These rugs are made in Bhadohi, the largest hand-knotted carpet making district in South Asia. There are upwards of 60000 artisans here who practice this craft, and many of them are generational artisans, passing on their knowledge from one generation to the next. The practice traces its origins back to the 16th century when Iranian master weavers set up base here with the patronage of the Mughal emperor Akbar
