  • The story behind the art:

Miniature paintings are small scale, highly detailed paintings on cloth, paper, or in modern times, on resin boards. They trace their origins back to at least the 9th century Persia. They gained popularity around the 12th century in India and grew bigger in format, with intricate detailing of the subjects chosen. The use of gold, silver, lapis lazuli gave them richness and opulence, and earned them the patronage of the royal courts. The palaces of the royals of Rajasthan and the Mughals were adorned by these paintings and they played an important part in preserving the history and heritage of Indian culture and society.
